Gifts from the Heart—Wyatt Dalton

Cranberries, garage sales, and an old watch
have nothing in common—except for this:
that each portrays a feeling of home
and each reminds you of where you belong.

Because each is a gift,
although that may be hard to see.
One that comes from the heart,
when it comes from you to me.

Consider what is really sold,
from the garage of a family home.
Imagine what is really told,
by the watch that belonged to someone,
well, old.

And when, if ever,
are cranberries set out to eat?
Only when all the family is near,
when being together takes the high seat,
and laughs and memories and experiences
are shared.

That is really what binds these three,
the memories that are sold, and told,
and yes, even eaten. Because,
as perhaps you can now see…

Cranberries, garage sales, and an old watch
have nothing in common—except for this:
each is more than a sum of it’s parts,
because each is a memory,
a gift from the heart.
