You’re afraid, so what?

You were afraid when you went off to college—but looking back, college isn’t so scary now, Is it? You were afraid your first day on the job—but now you help train the new guy. You were afraid the first time you stepped on the field, or the court, or the stage—but you survived and you thrived.

There have been so many times in your life that you have been afraid—but you’ve made a habit of overcoming them.

They were experiences that helped you grow. Because of them you’re now more confident, more careful, more experienced, more independent, or, simply, just… more.

These experiences have made you more than you were before. And all it took was for you to step up and face your fear of them.

So why haven’t you started yet? Get out of your comfort zone. Tell your story.

You don’t know where to begin, so what?

You’ll learn. You’ve done it plenty of times before.

When you first had a desire to walk, you learned to walk. When you first had a desire to speak, you learned to speak. It’s the same story when you wanted to learn how to ride a bike; or when you wanted to make a friend; or when you wanted to go swimming for the first time.

You didn’t wait until you knew how to do any of these things before you started. How could you? We learn by doing—by taking actions, and making mistakes, and fixing those mistakes.

You learned to walk the same way you learned to swim or ride a bike. You had a desire to learn, so you acted on that desire, and you learned.

How is this any different? You do have desire, don’t you?

So why haven’t you started yet? Act. Learn how to tell your story.

You have other things to do first, so what?

Won’t there always be something else that needs to be done?

There will always be an exam coming up. There will always be a busy week of work ahead. You will always have errands to run, places to go, people to see.

All of these things will always be there. But that thing that keeps you up at night—that amazing idea you’re so passionate about—your story? It won’t.

Stop wasting time. Stop putting it off. No more procrastinating.

Why haven’t you started yet? Tell your story.

You don’t have any time to spare, so what?

Are you seriously telling me that you don’t have time?

You don’t have fifteen minutes after you wake up? Ten minutes before you go to bed? You don’t ever take a coffee break?

Please.

You don’t need to finish a three-thousand page masterpiece of a novel in one sitting. You just need to start writing.

It’s really that simple.

So why haven’t you started yet? Tell your story.

No more excuses.

So what if you don’t have a plan? Make one!

So what if you don’t have motivation? Find some!

So what if you’re not productive enough? Adapt!

So what if you’re not good enough? Don’t make me laugh. Get Better!

The only thing that is stopping you from telling your story, is you. The only reason you haven’t started, is because you’ve chosen not to. So choose differently.

Start.

Just start.

Tell your story.
