Prey—Wyatt Dalton

The hawk in the sky, with it’s eagle eye,
spotted a hare in the field below him.
Tilting his wings, he swooped down from on high,
giving chase to the prey who evades him.

A shadow of danger the hare did see,
fall over the leaves of grass surrounding.
With a sudden fear, she fled to safety,
and laughed at the hawks violent grounding.

She laughed distracted by her cleverness,
and failed to see the coiled fear under foot
which struck, without a care for her success.

Out of the frying pan, her hide was cooked.

The fear took the prey and slithered away,
while the hawk lived to prey another day.
